Steps to Obtain a Driver’s License in Scarborough
1: Obtain a Driver’s Handbook
To start the process, you need to obtain a Driver’s handbook, which is available at any book store, convenience store, MTO center, and various other locations. Once you have the handbook, you should study it thoroughly.
2: Take the G1 Exam
After studying the handbook and on or after your 16th birthday, you can visit the nearest Drive Test Centre and write a theoretical G1 exam. There is no appointment necessary, and there are nearly 100 test centers scattered throughout the province. On the day of your G1 test, you must bring CAD $160.00 and 2 pieces of ID with you to show proof of your legal name, date of birth, and signature.
3: Obtain a G1 License
After passing the G1 License Test, you will be granted a G1 license. Under a G1 license, many conditions apply, which are designed to help you gain experience before appearing for your road test. These conditions include:
Accompaniment by a driver who has at least 4 years of G class driving experience whenever you’re behind the wheel. The accompanying driver must have a blood alcohol level below 0.05%, unless they’re 21 years old or younger, in which case they must have a “zero” blood alcohol level.
Driving with “zero” alcohol at all times.
Prohibition from driving from 12 am midnight to 5 am in the morning.
Prohibition from driving on any highways with posted speed limits of 80 km or above, including all the 400 series highways, unless accompanied by a licensed driving instructor.
Maintenance of a blood alcohol level of 0.00% at all times.
Limitation on the number of passengers in your car to the available seat belts.
However, if you attend an approved driving course, you are eligible to reduce the waiting period for your first road test from 12 months to 8 months.
4: Schedule Your G1 Driving Test Attempt
